So.
I have managed to fall asleep at my desk for the first time in ages, so to keep myself awake for the last 15 boring minutes of the day (because it's too little time to start something new, and I don't want to get caught napping by anybody) I will tell you about my second sock project, A.K.A. "WHY DOESN'T THIS HEEL WORK, DAMMIT?!"
My first sock experiment was with Some Crappy Cheap Sock Yarn and we shall never speak of it beyond stating that it felt like I was walking on gravel because a) the yarn was cheap and pretty crappy and b) MY HEELS ARE HUGE AND STRETCHED THE SOCK OUT TOO FAR (which I did not really realize until not long ago) and c) It was a short Row Heal done in Single Crochet (Both Loops).
Fast Forward to my second attempt. Megan suggested that her mom would like a pair of socks for skiing, so being understandingly nervous regarding socks from my prior attempt, I decided to search around for something different. These socks seemed like they would be just the ticket. Easy to make, stretchy, fairly easy to replace the heels or toes on later when they wore out...
Except that it appears that the heel will not be big enough for my big feet.
I tried making it longer, however it did not work out for me. I contacted the author of the pattern, who was out of the country.
I tried it a few different ways, but it was not working out... So I frogged it and started another pattern which should give me more room to experiment, but that is another blog post.
When the author got back into the states, she did get back to me with some pointers (and I had a facepalm moment, because once she said it, the solution was SO OBVIOUS) and I will probably be trying these babies again after Christmas. I have acquired some Firefly-themed Sock Yarn, and I will be probably be using two different shades of blue, "Thrilling Heroics" and "I'll Be In My Bunk".
And that will be all for right now, as it is currently time to blow this popsicle stand.
